Stamford Downtown is replete with numerous houses of worship beckoning and welcoming people of all denominations. Many of the congregations have been serving the downtown community for generations. While all add spiritual depth and beauty to the downtown, three of them are celebrating milestones which are inspirational and which greatly enhance the fabric of our community.
The First Congregational Church, located at the intersection of Bedford Street and Walton Place, is celebrating 375 years of service. | Stamford First Launches Year-Long Celebration of 375 Years |

First Congregational Church of Stamford UCC inaugurated its 375th Anniversary celebration on March 21 with worship, a festive luncheon, and a procession through downtown Stamford to the place where a plaque commemorates the church's birthplace in a log cabin. Conference Minister the Rev. Dr. Davida Foy Crabtree preached, welcomed by the church's Senior Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Cari Jackson.
In her sermon, Dr. Crabtree reminded the congregation of some of the highights in its history, such as its declaration in 1880 that the church welcomed all people regardless of race or ethnicity. In a mark of the congregation's embrace of the 21st century, the church launched a new web site design as part of its year-long observance of its founding.... Read more |

| Congregation marks 375th year of 'Stone Church That Rocks' |

Eleven-year-old E.J. Richardson led 40 parishioners through sunny downtown Stamford Sunday, carrying a banner that proclaimed the 375th anniversary of the "Stone Church That Rocks."
"People are caring and loving and they consider you their family," E.J. said of the First Congregational Church at Walton Place.
The procession wound down Bedford and Atlantic streets to Veterans Park, where a small service was held commemorating the church's rich history... Read more |

| Stamford church to install first black senior pastor |

The Rev. Cari Jackson thinks nothing of off-handedly addressing God in the midst of a conversation.
"Come on, God, I'm getting old here," Jackson joked, glancing skyward as she recounted the story of her 38-year journey to the ministry.
